Sandbox terms and acceptable use
These terms cover FacePing sandbox accounts, the SDK sandbox and sandbox practice lists: the free way to build and test with FacePing. By creating a sandbox account you agree to them. Going live with real people needs an approved application and a separate customer agreement, which replaces these terms for your live use.
Who we are
FacePing is a service of Wiretouch Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales, 71 Church Road, Hove, BN3 2BB, United Kingdom. Contact: support@faceping.ai.
What the sandbox is
- A free account with sandbox keys (they start with
fp_test_). A key lets the FacePing SDK run on your test devices, and lets your server try FacePing's check-in list API on a practice list. - The SDK sandbox: faces enrolled with the SDK are enrolled and matched on the device. We never receive those face images or face templates. Each device holds up to 25 faces, and each face is deleted automatically 24 hours after it was enrolled.
- Practice lists: you can have one practice check-in list at a time, for up to 25 people, to try the API, enrolment links, the enrolment page and check-in devices. Faces enrolled on a practice list are sent to us: we use each photo once to make an encrypted face template, never keep the photo, and delete every template automatically 24 hours after enrolment (sooner if you remove the person or delete the list). Practice lists are never billed.
- An app install needs a connection the first time it runs, and at least once every 30 days after that, to renew its sandbox licence.
- We may change these limits. If we make them stricter, we'll tell you by email first.
What you may use it for
Building, testing and demonstrating your own app's integration with FacePing, with these faces only:
- your own;
- adults (18 or over) on your team or among your testers who have agreed, before you enrol them, to their face being used to test your app, and who know they can ask you to remove it at any time.
What you must not do
- Use the sandbox with real customers, members, staff, visitors or event attendees, or in place of a live FacePing account.
- Enrol anyone under 18, or anyone who hasn't agreed, or use photos you found or collected elsewhere (for example from the web or social media).
- Identify, track or watch people without their knowledge, scan crowds, or build a collection of faces.
- Use FacePing to judge people's emotions, health, ethnicity, beliefs or other sensitive characteristics, or to make decisions about someone based on their face alone.
- Try to get around the sandbox's limits or licensing, share keys publicly, or create accounts to get more keys.
- Extract, copy or reverse engineer FacePing's models or SDK, except where the law says you may.
- Break any law that applies to you, including data protection and biometric privacy laws such as UK GDPR, EU GDPR and US state laws.
Your responsibilities
- Keep your account details accurate. You're responsible for what happens with your account and keys.
- Sandbox keys are safe to put in a test app, but don't publish them (for example in a public code repository). Revoke a key in the dashboard if it's exposed.
- For the testers you enrol, you decide how their faces are used, so you're responsible for their agreement and for removing their faces when asked. The SDK and the API let you remove any face at once.
Your data
We hold your account details (name, email, organisation, chosen platform), your keys (stored scrambled), and for each app install a random install id, the platform and SDK version, and when it was activated. Our privacy notice explains how we use and protect this.
Faces on practice lists
For faces on a practice list, you're the controller and we're your processor: we process them only to run your practice list, on your instructions, and for no other purpose. Our data processing agreement applies to that processing as if you were a customer, except that these terms replace the customer agreement, and each face template is deleted 24 hours after enrolment. You must record each tester's consent when you enrol them (the API and the enrolment page ask for it).
Suspension and closing your account
- We may revoke keys or suspend an account that breaks these terms, or to protect people or FacePing. Where we can, we'll tell you why.
- You can close your account at any time by emailing us. We may close accounts that haven't been used for 12 months, after emailing you first.
No charge, no warranty
The sandbox is free and provided as it is, for testing. We work to keep it running and accurate, but we don't promise it will always be available or error free, and it must not be relied on for real access decisions. To the extent the law allows, we aren't liable for indirect or consequential loss, and our total liability to you for the sandbox is limited to £100. Nothing in these terms limits liability that can't be limited by law.
Changes and law
We may update these terms. We'll email you about changes that matter before they apply, and record which version you accepted. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction.
